Explanatory Statement – Expatriate Employees Title: The Development of the Expatriate Needs Inventory My name is Catherine McEniry and I am currently undertaking my Master of Organisational Psychology degree at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia under the supervision of Dr Dianne Vella-Brodrick. As part of my degree, I am completing a research project concerning the needs of expatriate employees. This involves writing up a thesis of 5,000-7,00 words The aim of this thesis is to develop a measure, the Expatriate Needs Inventory (EN-Inventory), which can be used to measure the needs of expatriates. In this study, an expatriate is defined as an individual who has been sent by the organisation in which they are employed, to work and live in a foreign country for an extended period of time. It is thought that the findings of this study will be potentially beneficial to employees (the expatriate) and employers, the organisation in which the expatriate is employed. Potential benefits for the employee can be a more positive experience on their overseas assignment and less stress and discomfort, whilst the organisation may benefit both financially, by having reduced failure rates as well as increased employee productivity. I would like to invite current expatriate employees, those who have been sent by their company to live and work in another country for a minimum of 6 months to complete the questionnaire. Participation in this study involves completing an anonymous online questionnaire. The questionnaire includes a series of questions regarding your experiences, social support, life and job satisfaction, personal and work growth and demographic details. The online questionnaire should take around 30-45 minutes to complete.
